In October 2005 Council hosted a Needs Summit to sign-off South Waikato 's Community Outcome statements. Participants were also asked to identify potential Lead Organisations and Lead Partnerships for each Community Outcome area. As part of this process, Raukawa identified itself as the Lead Organisation for Community Outcomes that are primarily Maori, and a Lead Partner (with Council) on all other Community Outcomes. Similarly, Environment Waikato identified itself as a Lead Partner in achieving environmental outcomes for the District. Subsequently the South Waikato Economic Development Trust has identified itself as a Lead Partner on all economic outcomes as well as specific related outcomes.
Council's partnership approach to Community Outcomes is that:
- Council will not attempt to take the lead in all Community Outcome areas.
- Council calls for other organisations to be Lead Organisations or Lead Partners in Community Outcomes areas where this is their primary responsibility or desired role.
- Council will facilitate the process of meeting with Lead Organisations to monitor and integrate collaboration.
- Lead Organisations and Lead Partnerships are responsible for defining the needs lying behind the Community Outcomes, establishing measures and monitoring success or otherwise of their efforts to address the outcomes.
Looking Ahead…
Lead Organisations are thinking hard about how best to respond to South Waikato 's Community Outcomes. Opportunities exist for additional Lead Organisations and Lead Partners to step forward.
