Airports & Airfields

The South Waikato District Council owns the Tokoroa airport and airfield. These are available for hire by community groups, businesses, industry, light aircraft pilots, top dressing planes, and other uses. There are also a number of hangers available for lease. Aircraft up to 5000 kilograms are permitted to use the runway. The Tokoroa Aero Club and the Tokoroa Streetrodders Club both have their club houses on the property.

Should you need any further information or wish to book the airfield for an event, please follow the contact link at the bottom of this page..

There is an interesting story centered around our humble airport. In 2001 a movie sequence for the film “Superfire” starring DB Sweeney and Diane Farr was shot at the airport. This in itself is a pretty exciting event, but that is not where the story ends: two staff members, who still work for the Council, auditioned for the roles of extras and were successful. Andrew Robinson and Richard Glass, both from the Information Technology section, played ‘smoke jumpers' and spent about a week out at the airport doing take after take of shots.
